Perflex Extended-Cycle D.E. Filters
D.E. filters work to clear pools fast by removing particles as
small as one micron. They work by coating the Flex-Tubes or
"fingers' with diatomaceous earth (or D. E. powder). D. E.
Powder is much finer than sand which allows it to quickly trap
even small particles.
As dirt gets trapped in the outer most layer of the D. E., the
filter begins to get clogged and the pressure will rise from
12 lbs. to 20 lbs. When this occurs simply use the bump
handle to knock the dirt and D. E. powder down and allow it to
re-pack around the fingers.
The D. E. powder will eventally become so dirty that the
pressure will shoot right back up after bumping. When this happens
it is time to flush out the D. E. powder and replace it. This is
typically needed two to four times a season for a clear
pool. This saves the water in your pool as well as elimanates
the problem of disposing of the backwash water.
D. E. Filters work very quickly to clean a cloudy pool. This
however means that the filter will need to be bumped every few
hours, and may need new D. E. powder every day untill the
water is clear.
D. E. Filters come in various sizes:
